It is an honor to live in the Village of Head of the Harbor. As members of the Heritage First Party, we believe that this honor comes with responsibility – to preserve the woodlands, the harbor, and our historic community. These resources are what make our Village special, and they must be governed respectfully.
Village residents must be treated respectfully too. Our aim is to make governance open, transparent, and more inclusive. The way our Village should be run.
For too long the current administration, led by the current Mayor, has often operated in secrecy or dismissed questions and comments from residents and even other board members. Important meetings are canceled by him at his whim, sometimes on the same day with no notice for political gain. This is unfair and disrespectful to residents who appear at Village Hall only to find that a scheduled meeting has been canceled. Residents who come to trustee meetings with questions and concerns are treated by the Mayor with disdain. Women are treated with particular disregard.
Clearly, it is time for a change. It’s time for a Mayor and Board of Trustees who will listen. It’s time for a government that will treat constituents as neighbors, taxpayers and voters, not as mere annoyances and whiners, but partners and friends. It’s time to put you first.
